Single-lane traffic restriction set to begin on I-70 in Rostraver
Daytime single-lane restrictions will affect both eastbound and westbound traffic beginning Monday on Interstate 70 in Rostraver.
The restrictions are expected to be in effect between the Smithton and Route 51 exits, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, through Thursday, according to PennDOT. The work schedule could be affected by weather or other conditions.
Crews from contractor Golden Triangle will be applying a protective sealer to sections of the new concrete roadway as part of the $120.6 million update of the Route 51 interchange.
That interchange is being reconfigured in a “diverging diamond” format. Lanes of traffic on new twin Route 51 bridges over the interstate will switch to the opposite side of the road and back again, through intersections with traffic signals. That will allow drivers to turn left to enter the interstate without crossing opposing lanes of traffic.
Also, a 1-mile section of Route 51 will be widened, Finley Road will be relocated to form a four-way intersection at Route 981, and a left-turn lane will be added from Route 51 to Ridge Road.
The interchange project is slated for completion by October 2027.
