A worker crosses the roof of the McDonald’s restaurant on Route 119 in South Greensburg on Wednesday as the business is temporarily closed for an extensive renovation.

Travelers at the busy junction of routes 119 and 30 in South Greensburg who are anticipating a stop at the sign of the Golden Arches may not be “lovin’ it” so much for the next several weeks.

The busy McDonald’s restaurant at 1207 S. Main St. (Route 119) is temporarily closed for an extensive makeover.

Construction began Monday and is expected to wrap up shortly after the Independence Day holiday, according to a spokesman for contractor Max Construction.

The restaurant’s owner couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

The work includes replacing the roof and installing new finishes on the building’s exterior and in the dining area, the spokesman said.

Several areas inside and outside the restaurant are being updated to meet current handicapped-accessible standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act — including bathrooms, sidewalks and parking spaces.

The parking lot pavement will be resealed, and a double-lane drive-thru will expand capacity for motorists placing take-out orders.

For now, those in the Greensburg area with a hankering for a Big Mac or Egg McMuffin will have to drive just a few miles in one direction or the other on Route 30.

Two other nearby McDonald’s restaurants are located along Route 30 — east of town, across from Westmoreland Mall, and to the west, at Hempfield Plaza.
