Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art announces fall programs
Following the annual Garden Party fundraiser, officials at the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Ligonier Valley are planning several upcoming fall programs.
This year’s garden party featured two curated exhibits showcasing local artist J.D. Titzel and antique Bryce Glass, as well as music by Pittsburgh group RML Jazz.
Felting workshop
Felting artist Loretta Radeschi will host a workshop at the museum at 1 p.m. Oct. 21.
No experience is necessary, and packages of llama fleece will be available for participants to purchase. Radeschi will demonstrate how to dye wool and craft a felted three-dimensional gourd.
The cost is $20, and the workshop is geared toward adults. The class is limited to 15 participants.
Paranormal presentation
Author Stan Gordon will host a talk on the early history of paranormal events in Pennsylvania, from the government investigation of UFO sightings to unexplained events along the Chestnut Ridge.
Gordon investigated the 1965 report of a UFO crash near Kecksburg. He is the former director of the Mutual UFO Network, and is the author of four books including 2022’s “Creepy Cryptids and Strange UFO Encounters of Pennsylvania.”
It will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 25. The cost is $10. Seating is limited.
‘Pumpkin-palooza’
The museum’s auxiliary will host a craft workshop demonstrating how to create a decorative pumpkin out of an old sweater using simple materials.
Instructor Mary Clark will guide participants in the workshop, which is open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The cost is $10 and includes all materials.
Reservations for all programs can be made at SAMA-art.org or by calling 724-238-6015.
The cost of the programming is being offset in part through monies raised during the garden party fundraiser.
The museum is at 1 Boucher Lane and Route 711 in Ligonier Township.
