Southwest Greensburg church picnic will benefit first responders

First responders will be celebrated Saturday at the Greensburg Church of the Brethren’s second annual community picnic.

The event is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the church grounds at 554 Stanton St. in Southwest Greensburg.

The Southwest Greensburg police and fire departments and Mutual Aid Ambulance Service will have vehicles on display.

Those attending can pay for a chance to plunge the church pastor, Stephen Parfitt, into a dunk tank. Proceeds will be divided among the three local emergency agencies.

Other fun activities will include miniature golf, face painting and Knockerball Run — a game where players have their upper bodies inside large inflatable balls.

Food options will include hot sausage sandwiches, cabbage rolls, hot dogs and a bake sale.

Parfitt has led the congregation since July 2019 and has been involved with the church’s other charitable efforts.

Soup and sandwich sale

The church will hold a Disciples’ Hands soup and sandwich sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1. The church will sell the hot sausage sandwiches, priced at $4, and a variety of soups, at $5 per quart.

Proceeds will be used to help feed area residents who are hungry.
