You’re never too young to start making music with Stage Right School for the Performing Arts in Greensburg.
Among five summer camp offerings is a harmonica camp for families with children ages 6 months to 4 years.
The camp is part of Stage Right’s Music Together Program, an immersive music program designed to develop a love of music in young children.
Held throughout the year, Music Together sessions “concentrate on a single musical instrument, such as percussion,” said Stage Right founder and artistic director Tony Marino. “They get a music book and sit in a circle, and it’s fantastic and adorable.”
And no, the tiny tots are not too young to experiment with a harmonica, he said: “The little kids love that kind of stuff.”
Summer harmonica camp is scheduled for Tuesdays-Thursdays and Saturdays, July 6-Aug. 5.
The first camp for kids ages 8-18 kicked off June 7 with 83 students and runs to June 27. This camp will culminate with the teen students performing the musical, “Heathers,” based on the 1988 movie of the same name. The pre-teens will present a middle school version of the rock-and-roll musical, “Rock of Ages.”
Performance dates are June 25-27.

The second camp for the same age groups is scheduled for July 5-25. For this camp, the teens will be performing “The Addams Family,” and the pre-teens will be doing “The Wizard of Oz,” from July 23-25.
“There are 56 students already registered for this second camp, but there is still room for you,” Marino said
Stage Right’s Stars of Tomorrow Camp for kids ages 4-7 will meet 10 a.m.-noon July 26-30. On the final day of camp, the younger set will perform the mini-musical, “Broadway Beat,” featuring greatest hits from more than a century of musical favorites.
Each age group takes classes in acting, voice and dance. Students also will work with Carnegie Mellon University musical theater voice professor Claudia Benack.
Camps also offer in-person master classes from Broadway performers Lenora Nemetz (“Chicago,” “Working” and “Gypsy”) and Allan Snyder (“Les Miserables” and first national tour of “Phantom of the Opera,” playing the title character).
As part of these camps every student will receive a professional head shot done by Stacey Louise Photography.
Classes are held in Stage Right’s studios at 105 W. Fourth St., Greensburg.
Summer camp performances will take place in the Science Hall Theater on the Westmoreland County Community College Youngwood campus. Performances will be open to the public, and tickets are $15, or $10 for students.
Also during the week of July 26-30, Stage Right will offer the Spectrum Theatre Initiative Camp, running 1-3 p.m. daily for people of all ages with special needs.
The program uses drama and music to reach participants in innovative ways, and is based on national standards for musical and performance education for people with disabilities, Marino said. Materials include fairy tales and familiar Disney stories.
The program will conclude with a performance on July 30.
