State police will increase late-night patrols in response to recent reports of car break-ins in Export.

Lt. Michael Sbardella was at council’s Aug. 6 meeting to address concerns about thefts from vehicles along Lee Street, Pierce Street, Italy Road and Lincoln Avenue.

Sbardella said he would speak with midnight-shift officers about increasing patrols, since most of the incidents have taken place overnight.

Scout project

Eagle scout candidate Sal Colangelo plans to supervise construction of a ga-ga ball court at Export Community Playground as his Eagle project.

Council approved the project and agreed to contribute to it with costs not to exceed $1,200. Colangelo said he hopes to start the project in late August.

Ga-ga ball is played in a small round area, with players striking a ball with their hands and trying to eliminate other players by hitting them anywhere below the knee.

Eagle candidates take the lead role in their projects, coordinating volunteers, securing funding and supervising work crews.

Paving work to start

Council President Barry Delissio said paving work will start the final week of August at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Kennedy Avenue, as well as sections of Henry Street and Tyler Avenue.

The work is part of a joint paving project with neighboring Murrysville.

Festival closures

In anticipation of Saturday’s annual Export Ethnic Food & Music Festival, the following will be in place:

• There will be no parking on Washington Avenue or in the borough parking lot starting at 11 p.m. Friday night.

• Access to Madison Avenue will be through the parking lot and via Grant Street. Lincoln Avenue will be closed between Washington and Madison starting Saturday at 8 a.m. There will also be no parking on the lower (downtown) section of Lincoln.

• Gale Court will be closed starting Saturday at 8 a.m.

• Brick Hill Road will close from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the entrance to District Court 5-3-02.

Festival parking along Community Hill Road will be available for $5 per car. Proceeds will benefit the Export Historical Society. Golf cart shuttle rides will be available to the festival.
