Trafford Road reopened near the Murrysville/Penn Township border after a tractor-trailer crash forced a closure late Tuesday morning, emergency officials said.

Initial reports indicated the trailer’s load — steel ingots to be smelted — shifted around 11:15 a.m. as it was headed south along Trafford Road near Lyons Run Road, causing the trailer to split, a Westmoreland County 911 supervisor said.

According to Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 President Marts, the trailer simply broke.

“I think it maybe wasn’t the highest-quality trailer,” Marts said.

The truck’s driver was not injured, according to Murrysville police, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
