A Sewickley Township house guest helped himself to more than $4,000 in silver bars that belonged to his host, state police said.
Kenneth Paul Anderson, 21, of Arona, is charged with two counts of theft and one count of receiving stolen property in connection with the theft in July.
Shane Morrison of Herminie told police he let Anderson stay at his home for a week as a favor to his son but soon discovered several silver bars he kept at his home were missing. Morrison’s son contacted Anderson via social media to tell him he was “no longer allowed at the residence,” according to Trooper Ryan Bohn.
“The younger Morrison said Anderson did not say what he did with the silver bars or where he was staying,” Bohn said in court papers.
The elder Morrison eventually located the bars at the Gold Buyers of Pittsburgh shop in Irwin and called state police.
Bohn said the shop’s owner, Paul Barron, confirmed that Anderson had pawned the bars at the shop in exchange for $1,237.
Barron cooperated with the investigation, noting that Anderson presented his own driver’s license and signed his name on sale documents indicating he owned the bars, Bohn said.
One of the theft charges against Anderson involves defrauding Barron in the transaction.
Neither Morrison nor Barron could be reached for comment Monday.
Anderson could not reached for comment and an attorney was not listed in court documents filed with Rostraver District Judge Charles Christner.
