Troopers: Speed a factor in Hempfield crash that injured 2

A Hempfield man was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Corvette “at an excessive rate of speed” Thursday when he lost control as he rounded a curve on Route 130 and crashed, state police said.

David W. Henderson, 61, and his passenger, Louis Tatroe, 59, were flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with serious injuries after the 10:50 a.m. crash near the road’s intersection with Westland Drive, troopers said.

As Henderson rounded the curve, the rear of the Corvette began to swerve, causing him to drive off the left side of the road and over an embankment, police said.

Both Henderson and Tatroe were conscious and alert as they were taken by Mutual Aid Ambulance to the West Point ball field to be flown to the hospital, Trooper David Endlich said.

Henderson will be cited for driving at an unsafe speed, the trooper said.
