Megan Loughner of Hempfield helped collect more than $800 worth of groceries for the Welcome Home Shelter in Greensburg, as she raced the aisles of the Charley Family Shop’n Save in Greensburg on Tuesday morning.
Loughner, global sourcing manager for Kennametal in Unity, was chosen for the annual United Way Shopping Spree, which recognizes a donor from Westmoreland County each year. Donors are chosen at random to shop for a charity of their choice, loading as many nonperishable items as possible into their cart in three minutes.
Loughner racked up more than $820 worth of groceries.
The event also serves to highlight the United Way’s PA 211 Southwest helpline. In 2023, more than 400 people in Westmoreland County reached out for food assistance through the program, and the United Way annually invests more than $770,000 in 29 partner agencies throughout the county, including the Westmoreland Food Bank and the Knead Community Cafe in New Kensington.
