A Unity man was sentenced Thursday to five to 10 years in a state prison for having drugs and a gun at the Hostetter Hotel.

Jerome W. Thorton II, 33, pleaded guilty to prohibited possession of a firearm and possession with intent to deliver. He was ordered to pay $3,000 in lab fees to state police.

Troopers seized a handgun from a hidden safe and numerous bags of drugs in January 2021 after a woman reported he put the gun in her mouth and threatened to shoot her. During a search of his room at the Unity hotel, police reported finding bags of suspected methamphetamine and heroin on a coffee table and dresser.

Thorton was not permitted to have a firearm because of a past felony conviction in Allegheny County.

Charges related to the alleged assault and other drug- and gun-related offenses were dismissed. Thorton was credited with 450 days served in jail.
