Firefighters carry a “victim” to a triage station on May 26, 2014 as part of an emergency preparedness drill that is required by the Federal Aviation Administration every three years at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity.

Officials at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport are in need of volunteers to serve as “victims” in a disaster drill planned for May 10 at the Unity airport.

The 6:30 p.m. drill will be held on the airport’s old runway and will simulate an aircraft crash, according to airport manager Moe Haas.

“We’ll be using a couple of school buses to simulate the fuselage of the aircraft, and fire units will be rescuing victims from them,” he said.

A drill is held at the airport every three years to meet requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration.

“We’re required to hold a disaster drill to test our emergency plans,” Haas said.

Area fire departments, ambulance crews and hospital personnel are expected to participate.

Volunteers who are under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Those who want to volunteer may visit palmerairport.com and select “Palmer Airport” to fill out an online form.
