Nearly 500 people helped raise more than $107,000 as part of the annual Westmoreland County Walk to End Alzheimer’s, held last month at Twin Lakes Park.

H2B was the top fundraising team at this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising over $24,000, surpassing its fundraising goal of $13,000. Jennifer Pallitto, team captain, started the team for her husband who is living with a rare form of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Prior to the walk, a Promise Garden ceremony took place. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent walkers’ personal connection to Alzheimer’s and embody their diverse motivations: Purple means the walker has lost someone to Alzheimer’s or other dementia; orange indicates the walker supports the cause and the Association’s vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia; yellow stands for the walker’s support or care for someone living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia; and blue is for those living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.

In Pennsylvania, there are more than 282,000 people living with the disease and 465,000 caregivers.

This year’s total surpasses the group’s $100,000 goal, and is well above last year’s total of $88,000.

Fundraising for the 2024 Westmoreland County Walk to End Alzheimer’s continues through Dec. 31.
