A 29-year-old man was killed during a two-vehicle crash Monday along Route 982 at Industrial Boulevard in Derry Township.
Andrew J. Perratone, of Wood Street in Derry Township, was identified by the Westmoreland County Coroners Office as the driver of a 2018 Suzuki motorcycle involved in a head-on crash.
According to a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher, the incident occurred around 3:14 p.m. State police in Greensburg and several local fire departments were called to the scene.
According to Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha, Perratone was driving west on Industrial Boulevard at a high rate of speed when a 2015 Toyota Camry crossed the centerline trying to enter a residential driveway. The two vehicles crashed head-on.
Perratone, who was thrown from the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene around 4:20 p.m., Bacha said, adding he was wearing a helmet.
A cause of death has not yet been determined.
Dispatchers reported a separate accident, also involving a motorcyclist, occurred at about 3:10 p.m. along Route 982 in Unity Township. The crash occurred near the intersection with Quarry Road.
One person was being airlifted by medical helicopter from Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity to an undisclosed hospital, according to dispatch reports. State police were investigating that crash.
