Westmoreland County covid-19 new case counts trending downward
For the fourth time in the past week, Westmoreland County’s count of new covid-19 cases was under 20.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health’s latest report adds 18 new cases to the county’s total, with one additional death being reported. Of those new positive cases, all have been confirmed.
The total number of covid-19 cases to date now stands at 1,252, with 42 deaths.
From late April through mid-June, Westmoreland experienced new case counts in the single digits. However, by late June, cases in the county began to rise, with new cases regularly in double digits — 20s and 30s.
Lately, the numbers have started to come down.
Over the past seven days, Westmoreland County has averaged 19 new cases per day. That’s down five cases per day, on average, from the seven days prior. During the period spanning two to three weeks ago, the daily average was 30 new cases.
In all, 95.5% of people tested — 26,377 — in Westmoreland County have been shown to be negative for the coronavirus.
