Westmoreland dog owners warned of website selling fake dog licenses
Westmoreland County Treasurer Jared Squires on Wednesday warned residents to avoid a fraudulent website that is selling bogus dog licenses.
Squires said the state Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement identified the bogus site as selling fake Pennsylvania dog licenses. Operators of the sham site paid internet search engines for preferred placement on lists compiled by those seeking information about how to register their dogs, he said.
“In order to make sure you are using the correct site, please go to the Westmoreland County website and follow the direct links to the dog license website on the Treasurer’s Office page,” Squires said.
Links to purchase or renew dog licenses can be found at www.co.westmoreland.pa.us or through the state at licenseyourdogpa.gov.
Licenses can also be purchased in person at the courthouse, Squires said.
Dogs older than three months are required to have licenses, which cost $8.50 annually or $6.50 a year for neutered males and spayed females.
