The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County on Wednesday approved nearly $1 million worth of projects to install, relocate or replace water lines in several communities.
The board voted to move forward with a project to relocate the water lines near the Yukon Interstate 70 interchange in Sewickley and South Huntingdon townships as part of PennDOT’s redesign of the roadway.
W.A. Petrakis Contracting of Murrysville was the winning bidder at $529,817 (primary bid) and $133,750 (supplemental bid). It was one of eight companies to bid on the project, which will involve the installation of 60 feet of 8-inch iron pipe, 1,480 feet of 20-inch pipe and 1,805 feet of 24-inch pipe.
The board awarded a contract to Superior Utility Excavating of Salem Township for a project to replace approximately 1,600 feet of water main along Penn Adamsburg Road in Hempfield. The winning bid of $163,200 was one of nine received, although the first- and second-lowest bidders did not provide all the required documentation.
The existing water main will be replaced with 1,600 feet of 8-inch pipe.
The board also awarded a contract to W Construction Corp. of Hempfield for a project to install approximately 2,300 feet of 12-inch pipe in McKeesport. The winning bid of $140,300 was one of eight received.
The pipe will be installed along Silver Alley, Tulip Drive, Woodland Avenue, Grandview Avenue and Indiana Avenue in McKeesport.
The board also learned the Municipal Authority received an “unmodified opinion” in its annual audit by Deluzio & Company.
CPA Jeffrey Anzovino said an unmodified opinion is the highest level possible for an audit finding. The audit covered the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019.
“It’s a very strong audit,” said board Chairman Randy Roadman. “We’re in a very strong position going forward.”
