WetGo car wash proposed along Murrysville business corridor

Giant Eagle officials are looking to expand their presence along the Route 22 business corridor in Murrysville, proposing a WetGo car wash.
The 1.2 acre site, formerly home to Standard Bank, is situated adjacent to the GetGo fuel station and convenience store, and across Old William Penn Highway from the newly revamped Giant Eagle Market District store.
“We’re proposing to use the existing access from Route 22, and close the two existing curb cuts (on Old William Penn Highway),” said site development manager Lee May at a public hearing held before Murrysville council this month.
In addition to Route 22 access, customers at the GetGo next door would be able to use an interconnection to drive to the car wash.
The tunnel-style conveyor car wash would have two queue lanes, and covered spaces for free car vacuuming.
“All the water from the wash runs to a center trench drain, so no water will exit the building,” May said. Project officials have applied for connection to the Franklin Township Municipal Sanitary Authority for access to public sewer.
May said other WetGo car washes typically are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Josh Haydo, a senior staff traffic engineer with David E. Wooster and Associates, said a traffic study estimated that the car wash would generate roughly the same amount of daily traffic as the former bank.
Project officials are also seeking to waive a requirement for a left turning lane.
“The right-of-way there is limited,” Haydo said. “So it could involve relocating utilities and widening the roadway. It would be a pretty expensive addition.”
No one from the public had comments or questions, and council took no action at the public hearing. The next meeting is set for 7 p.m., April 5 at the Murrysville municipal building, 4100 Sardis Road.
