Youngwood man accused of assaulting, threatening relative over use of car

State police arrested a Youngwood man Tuesday for assault and intimidation of a witness after he allegedly got into an argument with a relative about the use of a car.
Alexander L. Soroka, 37, was arraigned before night court District Judge Denise Thiel for harassment, intimation of a witness and simple assault following the 5:42 p.m. incident at a residence on the 700 block of South 10 Street.
A 69-year-old man called police to report that family members were arguing with Soroka over using a car that he did not have a valid license to operate, Trooper Ryan Ilich reported in court documents. The man went upstairs and called state police, but Soroka followed the man, slapped him and took away his phone as he was talking with dispatchers. Police said the man told troopers that Soroka threatened to harm him if he called police again, “and slapped the victim in the face.”
“The victim stated that he was fearful for his safety,” Ilich said.
Thiel ordered Soroka held in the county jail on $15,000 bail. A Nov. 5 hearing is scheduled before Hempfield District Judge Anthony Bompiani.
