A roof on a Duquesne University building was damaged Monday during high winds, TribLive news partner WTAE reported.

A piece of the roof on Mendel Hall on Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Bluff neighborhood landed on the street and sidewalk below. The building, which houses athletic offices, was already scheduled for demolition next month, a university spokesperson told the media outlet.

No one was underneath the building at the time.

There was a 54 mph wind gust at Pittsburgh International Airport just before 4 p.m., said Shannon Hefferan, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Moon. Arnold Palmer Regional Airport reported a wind gust of 40 mph at 2 p.m. and Allegheny County Airport reported a wind gust of 41 mph just before 5 p.m., she said.

“Max wind gusts have kind of been all over the place today,” Hefferan said.

Wind gusts, which could reach 35 to 45 mph, are expected to diminish after dark.
