Woodland Hills School District appointed one of the high school’s assistant principals to be the school’s interim principal.

The school board on Wednesday approved naming Shelly Manns as interim high school principal. She joined the district in September 2020 and served as an assistant high school principal last year.

Manns is taking the reigns from Philip Woods, who has been the high school’s principal since 2018. He recently accepted a position as superintendent at Aliquippa School District, where he grew up.

“Thank you to the board for your vote,” Manns said during Wednesday’s board meeting. “I appreciate the opportunity and I look forward to getting to work.”

Before starting at Woodland Hills High School last fall, she held multiple roles at Passport Academy Charter School in Pittsburgh, serving as assistant principal, dean of students, lead teacher and as a science teacher. She also had worked as an educator at Career Connections, where she served as a department head, lead teacher and science teacher.

She previously taught science in South Carolina.

Manns holds a bachelor’s degree in biology education from South Carolina State University and a master’s in curriculum and technology from the University of Phoenix. She earned her School Principal K-12 certification from Point Park University.

Woodland Hills students are scheduled to return to class on Aug. 23.
