Woodland Hills School District to offer gun buyback program

Woodland Hills School District officials announced they have secured partnerships and funding to provide a gun buyback program within its communities.
“This is an idea that has been a couple of years in the making,” Superintendent James Harris said in a press release Tuesday. “Our students and staff have been affected by gun violence. Our district knows that trauma all too well, and we wanted to do something to make a positive impact on our communities.”
The Woodland Hills School District serves 12 communities: Braddock, Braddock Hills, Chalfant, Churchill, East Pittsburgh, Edgewood, Forest Hills, North Braddock, Rankin, Swissvale, Turtle Creek, and Wilkins Township.
District officials said they received financial support from an anonymous corporate donor to launch the program.
Specific details such as dates and times for the buyback have yet to be announced.
The district partnered with Rankin police, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Rankin and state Sen. Jay Costa, D-Forest Hills, to make the buyback program possible.
