Woodland Hills School District plans to return students to the classroom in March.
Students are scheduled to return to in-person instruction in a hybrid format with start dates staggered by grade. Pre-kindergarten through fifth graders will begin the virtual model on March 15, followed by students in grades six through eight on March 22 and high school students on March 29.
The district has not opened during the 2020-21 school year.
Students have the choice to remain on the virtual platform , said Superintendent James Harris.
“This is just another option that we’re trying to provide to our families in this time,” Harris said. “We’re not saying you have to come back or you have to stay virtual. I think a lot of families are doing well virtually and they want to keep doing what they’re doing. This is an opportunity for those students who have not been engaging to come in and have a jumpstart.”
Students who opt to participate in the hybrid model will attend classes in-person two days a week.
Wednesdays will remain a remote learning day districtwide, Harris said. Custodial staff will use that time to deep clean school buildings.
Additional information will be sent to families within the next week, Harris said. Students will be assigned to a cohort that will dictate which days they can attend in-person if they choose to participate in the hybrid model. Families will be able to opt to remain fully online at that time if they prefer.
Transportation will be provided for students attending school in person, Harris added.
The decision to return students to in-person learning comes as covid-19 cases in the area are declining, Harris said, but the district will remain vigilant on covid-19 measures.
Harris noted that schools may temporarily close in the event of covid-19 cases in the building.
