A new UPMC campus in West Mifflin will open Dec. 1, 2020, specializing in outpatient surgery and specialty care.

A new UPMC campus in West Mifflin will open Dec. 1, specializing in outpatient surgery and specialty care, officials said Friday.

The 46,000-square-foot clinic will offer more than 20 outpatient services. Specialists from UPMC Magee, the Hillman Cancer Center and the Heart and Vascular Institute, as well as orthopedic and sports medicine experts and a broad range of other subspecialties, will all be available at the clinic. Services will include outpatient surgery, women’s specialty services, diagnostic imaging, children’s express care and many more, according to a news release.

“Really, what we’re trying to do in the community is create a one-stop shop for the entire family,” said Mark O’Hern, president of UPMC East and UPMC McKeesport, who will be leading the new clinic.

Providers in the clinic will also be connected to those in Pittsburgh, O’Hern said, making it easy for patients to receive additional care if needed.

UPMC said the system treats more than 188,000 patients, or 500 per day, who live in this area.

“This demonstrates a clear majority of residents in these neighborhoods have already chosen UPMC physicians and facilities as their preferred providers for their health care,” O’Hern said. “An established goal in serving our communities is to make it as easy as possible for patients to obtain the high-quality care and services they need close to home, conveniently and efficiently.”

The new campus will be located near the former Century III Mall in what used to be a Toys R Us, at 275 Clairton Blvd. O’Hern said he’s especially excited to be able to revive a building that was previously vacated in the community, creating more than 50 new jobs in the process.

It’s also the latest regional clinic the sprawling hospital system has established in recent years, following a Pleasant Hills Urgent Care and Primary Care facility that opened in 2019 and a West Mifflin Outpatient Center in 2013. UPMC leaders have previously expressed a need for a hospital in the South Hills to fill a void for their health insurance members who live nearby.

“We’re constantly evaluating all communities UPMC has the opportunity to serve in,” O’Hern said.
