100 new coronavirus deaths, 612 new cases reported in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 100 new covid-19 deaths and 612 new cases Tuesday.

That brings the state’s total case count to 72,894, with 5,667 deaths.

The state considers 616 patients as probable cases, but they are not confirmed.

More than half of coronavirus cases in the state are in patients age 50 or older, with the most severe cases in patients over the age of 65, according to the Department of Health.

Nursing and personal care homes account for 15,660 cases among residents and 2,696 among employees. There have been 3,597 coronavirus deaths in nursing and personal care homes.

The virus has been found in 609 nursing facilities.

Health care workers account for 5,523 coronavirus cases.

Currently, 57 counties are in the yellow or green phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s three-tiered reopening plan. The first 18 counties moved to the green phase Friday.

All remaining red counties are expected to move to yellow by June 5.
