No license required: July 4 is Fish-For-Free Day in Pennsylvania

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will offer its second and final Fish-For-Free Day of the year on July 4 when anyone can fish, even without a state fishing license.

All other fishing regulations apply, though.

The commission offers the free days to open up fishing opportunities for the public, especially during the holidays, when so many people are outdoors near waterways. The other free day was held earlier this year on Memorial Day weekend.

To make the fishing experience more convenient on the Fish-for-Free days, people can borrow equipment from dozens of fishing tackle loaner sites across the state. Many of the sites are in state parks, which are a popular place for visitors on July 4. Loaner sites are also available at county parks and some public libraries. To find loaner sites, visit this the fish commission’s website.
