Pennsylvania adds 835 new covid-19 cases, 20 new deaths

By adding 835 cases, Pennsylvania on Friday posted its highest new covid-19 case count in nearly two weeks.

The Pa. Department of Health also announced 20 new deaths related to the coronavirus, bringing the state total to 7,655.

The state said there were 156,317 individuals tested from Aug. 21-27, with 4,216 positive cases — for a 2.7% positivity rate.

Philadelphia County posted the highest number of new cases (120), with York coming in next highest with 97. Allegheny County’s 63 new cases made it third, followed by Delaware (49), Lancaster (45) and Beaver, Chester and Montgomery counties, each with 41.

Ten counties posted no new cases.

According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are 526 state residents currently hospitalized for the virus, with 80 of them on ventilators.

In nursing and personal care homes, there have been 20,937 resident cases of covid-19, with 4,458 cases among employees — for a total of 25,395 at 925 facilities in 61 counties. Out of the state’s total deaths, 5,175 (or 67.6%) have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

About 9,526 of the state’s total cases are among health care workers.
