If you’re traveling by car during Thanksgiving week, expect to see the heaviest traffic of the year on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission estimates 3.6 million cars and trucks will be driven on the turnpike during the six-day period, beginning Tuesday and ending Dec. 1.

The most heavily traveled days are expected to be Tuesday and Wednesday with 715,000 and 735,000 vehicles expected. The heaviest traffic volumes will occur between the hours of 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday, and noon and 8 p.m. on Dec. 1.

Turnpike maintenance crews will suspend work beginning at 5 a.m. Tuesday until 11 p.m. on Dec. 1. All lanes in each direction of the turnpike will be open and available to accommodate heavier traffic volumes.
