Jill Biden to visit Pittsburgh to tout Bidenomics
First Lady Jill Biden is coming to Pittsburgh next week to tout her husband’s efforts in revitalizing the economy.
Biden will lead the Bidenomics tour that will go through Pittsburgh, Columbus, Ohio, and Augusta, Ga., according to Bloomberg. No details have been provided yet on when and where the Pittsburgh stop will be.
A White House official told Bloomberg that the tour will focus on the Biden Administration’s efforts to boost the middle class and detail the president’s Investing in America agenda.
The three tour stops are cities that were recently designated workforce hubs. Southwestern Pennsylvania was selected because of its success in innovation and its growth in advanced manufacturing such as robotics and the clean energy sector, according to the White House.
Biden recently kicked off his reelection campaign, and the first lady’s visit is a sign the campaign is heating up.
The term “Bidenomics” was originally created by Republicans as a pejorative term, but the campaign is hoping to reclaim the word and use it to describe the administration’s success, Bloomberg reported.
Pennsylvania will be a key swing state for Biden’s reelection chances, and the Pittsburgh region is crucial to winning the state. Biden had a strong showing in Allegheny County in 2020, performing historically well for a Democratic presidential candidate.
Biden’s current approval rating is low among Pennsylvanians. A June Quinnipiac poll showed 39% of state voters approved of Biden, while 57% disapproved of the president.
