It’s the first weekend of June. Before you leave the house, plan accordingly because there are several big events happening in the city. Here are some ways to spend it.

Beers of the Burgh

The ninth annual Beers of the Burgh Festival is Saturday at the Carrie Blast Furnaces in Rankin. More than 50 of the area’s breweries will be serving a variety of ales, ciders and non-alcoholic beers. There will also be food trucks and live music.

The event will be held inside and outside.

A portion of the proceeds benefit the Rivers of Steel Heritage Corporation and its mission to promote resource conservation and development, heritage tourism, cultural and educational programs and economic revitalization in the Pittsburgh area.

Limited tickets remain for the 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. session.

Tickets are $49.50.

The Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival opens at noon Friday throughout the Cultural District. In its 64th year, events will take place along Fort Duquesne Boulevard from Stanwix Street to Ninth Street, Downtown. There will be several gallery spaces open on nearby Liberty Avenue.

The space where the Allegheny Overlook Pop-Up area opened in 2021 for summer music events will be the home of the main stage and other activities. It will connect to The Backyard, an outdoor area at the corner of Eighth and Penn avenues.

The Giant Eagle Creativity Zone will be stationed at Trust Oasis on Seventh Street.

The artist market will be displayed on both sides of Fort Duquesne Boulevard between Sixth and Ninth streets. More than 250 artists locally and across the country will be selling handmade gifts, jewelry and paintings and showcasing various art media.

The featured concerts will represent hip hop, pop, funk, jazz classical and rock.

The festival is free.

Every Brilliant Thing

Kinetic Theatre Company will perform the Pittsburgh premiere of Duncan MacMillan’s award-winning interactive play, “Every Brilliant Thing.” The audience will be invited to be part of the ensemble and story telling.

The piece is about a 6-year-old whose mother is in the hospital. Because of something the child’s father said, the youngster makes a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world, such as ice cream, water fights, staying up past your bedtime and being allowed to watch television. The note is left on the mom’s pillow.

It’s a play about depression and the lengths we will go for those we love.

Presented in collaboration with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, it stars comedic actor Marcus Weiss. The show is at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Rauh Studio Theatre in the basement of the Cathedral of Learning on Pitt’s campus in Oakland.

Tickets are $45, $42 in advance.
