French Senate says Notre-Dame must be restored exactly how it was

The French Senate says Notre-Dame cathedral must be rebuilt as it appeared prior to the blaze that destroyed the roof of the popular Paris landmark.

French Senators on Monday approved the government’s Notre-Dame restoration bill but added a clause that it must be restored as it was before the fire, reports The Local.

The government had launched an international architecture competition to solicit innovative improvements to the historic structure. The roof and spire need to be replaced after they collapsed in an April 15 fire.

Rebuilding the cathedral ignited a debate between traditionalists who want to bring back as much of the original structure as possible and innovative designers who want to use this opportunity to add a contemporary twist to the roof.

A 300-foot-tall flame sculpture, a shooting beam of light, and a tower that resembles a spaceship are some of the proposals to replace the legendary spire, reports ArtNet News.

DOMES FOR NOTRE DAME. My utopian vision for the new Notre Dame Roof. The new domes will provide separate functional spaces. The flexibility of the volumes allows to allocate completely different functions. An elevated and weatherproofed park with an overview on the city, a museum with the cathedral relics, pavilions for art and musical exhibitions. The domes have always been part of the cathedral as invisible entities. They take shape with this proposal, coming to life. design&visualization by: valentino gareri http://valentinogareri.com/ 3d modelling: @winstonwu_ . . . . #notredamedeparis #notredameproposal #paris #notredamecathedral #notredameparis #dezeen #archilovers #archigram #cgartistlab #renderbox #cgi #3drender #architecturalvisualization #designinspiration #architecture #likeforlikes #architecturephotography #photooftheday #art #instagood #archidaily #photooftheday #architectural #architecture_hunter #designinspiration #designers #designboom #architect #architectureporn #architects_need @dezeen @archdaily @designboom @prestinenza @future.architects_ @next_top_architects @the_best_new_architects @theplanmag @amazing.architecture

What could be better than a swimming pool?

wow, just WOW!⁣ This #notredameproposal by @ulfmejergrenarchitects… "is a complementary spatial experience to the building that will match the awe of the great interior; a space for thinking and self-reflection.⁣ ⁣ the spire is gone, but the twelve statues of the apostles that where put away during the restoration and managed to escape the fire, are once again back at the roof, now as guardians around a large public pool that occupies the whole roof. ⁣ a cathedral is in our opinion not an isolated island in the urban fabric, it belongs to the city and to the people.⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ Regram via @designboom⁣ ⁣ #newcastle #newcastlensw #newcastleinteriordesign #interior #interiors #interiordesign #interior_and_living #interiordesigner #design #designer #architecture #inspo #instainspo #interiorarchitect #ejeinteriors #eje #interiorinspo #interiordecor #interiorstyle #inspiration #stylish
