Some bookworms are including bed bugs in the volumes they return to a library in New England.
Books were discarded and desks wiped down with alcohol after the staff found bed bugs in books returned to the Lane Memorial Library in Hampton, New Hampshire, reports Seacoast Online.
The vermin were discovered Sept. 21 and library trustees responded by enacting a policy that allows staff to suspend users until they prove the bugs are gone from their homes.
The policy requires written documentation, such as a note from a pest professional who cleaned the home, according to Seacoast Online.
Pests covered by the new rule include bed bugs, cockroaches, silverfish and ants.
Library Director Amanda Reynolds Cooper told Seacoast Online the building is currently bug-free.
