That’s what a store clerk in Japan reportedly did 1,300 times.
Then he went online and bought some things for himself.
Yusuke Taniguchi, 34, was working the register at a mall in Koto City when he allegedly memorized the 16-digit-number, name, expiry date, and security code on the credit cards of customers, reports SoraNews24.
He apparently retained the information long enough to jot it down after the sale. SoraNews reports that after the arrest police found a notebook with the information and are working to connect it to fraudulent transactions to determine the scope of Taniguchi’s alleged crimes.
Taniguchi reportedly told police he had been selling the goods he ordered to get cash for living expenses. SoraNews reports that the transaction that tripped him up was an order that sent a pair of handbags totaling $2,500 to his home address. Police showed up soon after the bags arrived.
