A man had been watching a shark swimming along a Florida beach for about two hours when a swimmer entered the scene.

Stan Battles told the Panama City News Herald the shark had been doing figure 8s in the muck and sea grass at Panama City Beach Wednesday morning. He said the shark was keeping to the cloudy water until a woman swam near it.

Battles filmed the encounter from the 28th floor of the Tidewater Resort, reports the Panama City News Herald.

“You don’t want to write what I was thinking,” Battles said. “I just didn’t want the girl to get hurt.”

“The woman swims directly over this thing,” Battles told the Panama City News Herald. “Directly over it.”

The shark breaks its pattern and circles the woman, appearing curious.

The swimmer is completely unaware that she has attracted the attention of a shark until about two minutes into the video when someone on the beach notices and alerts her.

Battles told the Panama City News Herald he rushed down to the beach and showed her the video.

“She never saw it,” he told the newspaper. “She was just like, ‘I think I’m done with the ocean.’”
