Editorial: We wish you a merry Christmas

What is your Christmas tradition?
Do you open presents on Christmas Eve? Is that the night you finally decorate the tree?
Do you eat homemade candy and watch “It’s a Wonderful Life?” Do you dress in matching pajamas?
Do you put your kids to bed and then eat the plate of cookies left out with a cup of milk for reindeer? Do you stay up late laughing with friends who couldn’t fly home for the holidays?
Are you going to wrap presents? Will you be building a bike or putting together a dollhouse?
Do you spend your holiday with your family? Will this be your first Christmas with someone you love? Is it going to be your first year to host? Will you pack up your presents and head to Grandma’s house?
Will you open that last door on the Advent calendar? Will you go to midnight Mass?
Will you sing carols by the fire? Drink eggnog? Mull wine?
Will you celebrate alone? Will you not celebrate at all?
Is it not your holiday? Is this just another day for you?
However you spend your Christmas Eve and your Christmas Day, our wish for you is comfort and joy.
May you have the Christmas you want.
When you open your presents, may they be thoughtful and fit just right.
When you dig in your stocking, may it be filled with unexpected treasure.
When you sit down to dinner, may you be nourished as much by what is on the table as by the people who surround it.
When you close your eyes at the end of the day, may you sigh with contentment.
And when you remember this day in the future, may you think fondly of a holiday well spent.
That is our wish for you — a day filled with peace and love.
