Letter to the editor: Shapiro’s leadership refreshing
Share this post:
Gov. Josh Shapiro’s leadership is a dazzling contrast to the leadership at the federal level. His proposed 2025-26 budget has an emphasis on public service, not aggrandizement. Gratefully, Shapiro is working to counter the mean-spirited approach of the Trump administration that unlawfully terminated the Local Food Purchasing Assistance Program (LFPA), which will cause:
• 189 Pennsylvania farms to lose a critical source of revenue.
• 14 Pennsylvania food banks to lose access to local fresh food.
The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is expected to lose $1.06 million annually, preventing services to its 11-county service area.
Shapiro’s style is thoughtful, and he communicates through his work and out of respect for those with whom he disagrees. Wow, now there is something our children can emulate. National politics currently emphasizes misinformation and bullying. Sadly, these are becoming accepted as the norm. Elections can be won this way, in the short run, but in the long term we lose as a nation.
We should all remain trustworthy, loyal, friendly, courteous and kind, and let the misinformation roll off our backs.
Cheers to Governor Shapiro! It is refreshing to see government work for the side of we, the people.
