The Episcopal bishop’s remarks at the inaugural prayer service reminded me of the sanctimonious letters that have appeared in the Trib from leftists who want to preach to conservatives about how Trump voters are in contravention to Christ’s teachings concerning compassion toward others. Let’s do a little Bible research.
Jesus did indeed preach compassion, forgiveness and forgoing judgment. But he always did so in addressing personal relationships; human interaction. Government policy was of no concern to him, advising his disciples to “render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s … .” Jesus certainly endorsed giving for the benefit of those in need, but emphasized that it should be done willingly and freely (something I think conservatives do in far greater numbers than radical leftists). I don’t remember him advocating using public funds, confiscated from the citizenry, to pay for every conceivable need throughout the world. Lefties can be very generous with other people’s money.
Do you honestly believe that Jesus would call for allowing millions of people, including terrorists, drug smugglers, murderers, rapists and human traffickers, to flood into the country? Did Christ enjoin chaos and lawlessness? I don’t think so.
