Incumbents win most Shaler area races

The majority of the races in the Shaler area were uncontested.

Etna council

In the Ward 1 race for Etna council, incumbent Democrats Megan Tunon and Brad Ianuzzi won the two open seats with 217 and 214 votes, respectively.

Republican Nicholas Behr Leffakis received 104 votes and there were three write-ins.

Democrat incumbent Ronald Trader was the only person on the Ward 2 ballot, receiving 159 votes. There were five write-ins.

Democrat incumbent Jessica Semler was the only person on the Ward 3 ballot for a four-year term, receiving 214 votes. There were 18 write-ins.

Republican incumbent Colleen E. Schaefer was the only candidate on the ballot for the Ward 3 two-year term and received 194 votes. There were 12 write-ins.

Millvale council

Millvale’s four-year and two-year term races were both uncontested, and all candidates were incumbents.

The four Democrats on the ballot for four, four-year seats were Katie Dembowski with 585 votes, Denise Rudar with 513 votes, Paul D. Bossung Jr. with 509 votes and William G. Stout with 504 votes. There were 51 write-in votes.

For the two-year term, Democrat Tyler Halt was the only candidate on the ballot. He received 627 votes and there were 25 write-in votes.

Shaler commissioners

Shaler commissioners Ward 1 race was uncontested, with incumbent Frank Iozzo cross-filed on the ballot and receiving 1,150 votes. There were 18 write-ins.

It was the same situation in Ward 3, where incumbent and current board president David W. Shutter was also cross-filed and uncontested on the ballot. He earned 1,372 votes. There were 31 write-ins.

In the Ward 5 race, Republican incumbent Susan H. Fisher bested Democrat and newcomer Christopher Squire 903 to 651 votes. There were five write-ins.

In Ward 7, Republican incumbent Bill Cross beat Democrat newcomer Chris Chirdon 801 to 550 votes. There were no write-in votes.

Shaler Area school board

The three Shaler Area school board races were uncontested.

In Region 1, incumbent and current school board vice president Jim Tunstall was the only candidate on the ballot, and he was cross-filed. He received 3,440 votes. There were 81 write-ins.

Two cross-filed incumbents were on the ballot for two seats in Region 2 — Eileen Phillips earned 2,655 votes and Jason Machajewski received 2,639. There were 74 write-ins.

In Region 3, incumbent James L. Fisher and newcomer Dorothy J. Petrancosta were the only two candidates on the ballot seeking two seats. Both were cross-filed. Fisher earned 2,934 votes and Petrancosta got 2,426 votes. There were 81 write-in votes.
