Shaler Area High School junior Lindsey Caplan received an honorable mention for the Society of Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh Award for the High School Student Essay Contest on the theme of alternative energy.

Thiel College junior Ashlyn Wightman was selected earlier this month as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Midfielder of the Week. It was the fourth time she received the award this season.

Jeffrey Antico earned a Ph.D. in educational leadership for changing populations at Notre Dame of Maryland University in May 2023. He is a graduate of Central Catholic High School and the University of Pittsburgh. He taught in the Washington, D.C., area, Prague, Czech Republic, and currently is teaching IB Chemistry in Vienna, Austria.

Danielle Moretti was recently initiated into the Ohio Northern University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society. The Society welcomed 1,869 new initiates from 78 universities in April.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania held the inaugural Pittsburgh Youth Leadership Awards on April 28, honoring youth who have displayed outstanding leadership and personal growth in BGCWPA programs over the past year. The 2023 BGCWPA Youth of the Year is Kylie Eagle from the Northern Area Clubhouse in Millvale. Eagle has been involved with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania for 10 years, starting out attending programs, then progressing through the organization achieving a Learn & Earn paid position and is now an AmeriCorps member working at the Clubhouse. Eagle has participated in Torch Club through BGCWPA, has extensive volunteer work under her belt from helping with fundraising events to facilitating BINGO at a senior high rise. She loves animals and has an interest in and passion for mental health advocacy, has been trained in water safety, first aid and CPR and is the captain of the color guard as a senior at Shaler Area High School.
