After Robert Morris opened its season Dec. 5 with a victory against Point Park, the Colonials’ next two games were canceled.
Back in business Dec. 18, Robert Morris lost nonconference games to Bowling Green and Marshall before surpassing the century mark the day after Christmas in its first Horizon League encounter, a 102-88 victory at Purdue Fort Wayne.
Robert Morris lost to Fort Wayne the next night and defeated Milwaukee on Jan. 1 at UPMC Events Center, but the coronavirus resurfaced and three conference games were canceled.
Now, after the second two-week pause this season, Robert Morris (3-3, 2-1) hopes to return to Horizon League competition with two scheduled games at Illinois-Chicago (5-4, 2-2) on Friday and Saturday.
The Colonials are led by senior forward AJ Bramah, who rewrote the Robert Morris record books by averaging a school-record 21.2 points over the first six games. He leads the Horizon League in scoring.
In the victory against Milwaukee, Bramah recorded the ninth double-double of his career with 20 points and 14 rebounds. He hit a jumper with 50 seconds remaining that snapped a 61-61 tie and helped defeat Milwaukee. Freshman guard Enoch Cheeks contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Senior guard Jon Williams leads the league and is fourth in NCAA Division I in assist-to-turnover ratio (5.6).
The Robert Morris women (0-6, 0-6) will play at Horizon League opponent Wright State on Friday and Saturday after Northern Kentucky paused team activities because covid-19 protocols.
