Cal (Pa.) hires Yough grad Chandler Daniel as assistant strength and conditioning coach
Chandler Daniel was a talented offensive and defensive lineman at Yough under former football coach Mark Crovak.
He went on to play college football Duquesne where he earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training in 2018. The Herminie native played both offensive and defensive line for the Dukes (2014-17) and helped the program capture its first outright Northeast Conference title in 2015.
The next year, Daniel completed his master’s degree in exercise science and health promotion with a concentration in performance enhancement and injury prevention from Cal (Pa.).
After spending the next four years working for Pro Performance RX and different high school and college programs, Daniel was named assistant strength and conditioning coach at Cal (Pa.) on Monday.
“I’m very happy for him,” Crovak said. “Chandler is a great person and hard worker.”
Daniel spent the past 18 months as the head strength and conditioning coach at Brooke High School in West Virginia through the fitness company Pro Performance RX. He also served as a personal and group trainer at Pro Performance RX in Morgantown, W.Va.
“I am extremely excited to be joining the Cal U team once again,” Daniel said in a release. “I look forward to helping the student-athletes achieve their goals on their field of play, as well as bettering themselves as individuals. I strive to build stronger people in strength and in character.”
Daniel was responsible for creating and implementing preseason, in-season and offseason programming for all 12 varsity teams and the 200 student-athletes at Brooke High School, which is located between Weirton and Wheeling.
He tracked and assessed progress of the athletes, while performing facility maintenance and management through scheduling of all the teams.
Daniel also provided training at the headquarters of Pro Performance Rx at Mylan Park in Morgantown where he supervised personal and group training of various high school and collegiate athletes at the facility.
“We are so excited to have Chandler join our team. He brings an incredible drive to help those around him to grow and succeed,” Cal head strength and conditioning coach Bobby Sepesy said. “His background in athletics, academics and experience are going to be a great addition to our strong tradition of excellence.”
Daniel was a graduate assistant at Cal, where he assisted with the training of multiple intercollegiate teams and created an offseason and preseason program for the men’s soccer program.
He served as a liaison between the staffs of strength and conditioning and athletic training to aid in the modifying and creating programs for injured student-athletes, as well as implementing exercises to help with injury prevention.
Daniel is a certified athletic trainer and holds certification in Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and Speed Agility Quickness (SAQ).
