Seven-time PIAA track and field gold medalist Colleen Rosensteel, who went on to compete in Olympic judo, is going into the Robert “Tick” Cloherty Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.
The Greensburg Central Catholic and University of Florida alum is one of the most decorated athletes to come out of Westmoreland County.
No athlete has matched the Greensburg native’s seven state track and field titles. Rosensteel, a 1985 GCC graduate, won titles in discus and shot put, and she held the national high school record in the discus at one time. She made the U.S. Olympic judo team for the 1992 (Barcelona), ’96 (Atlanta) and 2000 (Sydney) Games.
Her best finish was a tie for ninth in 2000.
Rosensteel earned a bronze medal at the 1995 Pan American Games in Argentina.
Rosensteel also was a four-year starter in basketball and a member of four section championship teams at Greensburg Central Catholic.
