Cutrell, DeNunzio wins Westmoreland County Golf Association tournament title

Westmoreland County Golf Association held its first event of the season on Saturday, and the team of Arnie Cutrell, David DeNunzio and Ronald DeNunzio won the 3-Man Scramble at Totteridge Golf Course.
The trio fired an 18-under-par 54 to edge out the team of Vince Zachetti, Ryan Sikora and Mark Goetz, who shot a 16-under 56.
Finishing third was the team of Palmer Jackson, Ryan Kimmich and Nolan Shilling, who shot a 15-under 57.
There were 17 teams in the tournament.
The team of Cutrell and the DeNunzio twins had eagles on Nos. 4 and 7. They also had 14 birdies.
The Zachetti, Sikora and Goetz team eagled No. 2.
Ellis wins Tri-State Amateur
Peters Township’s Jimmy Ellis fired a 6-under 136 to capture the Tri-State Section PGA Amateur title May 26 at Indiana Country Club.
He held on to defeat Central Catholic senior and Canonsburg native Rocco Salvitti, who shot 137.
Bethel Park’s Brett Young placed third with a 143, Pittsburgh’s Scott Jordan was fourth with a 144 and Sewickley’s J.F. Aber placed fifth with a 145.
Latrobe’s Brady Pevarnik and Greensburg’s Kevin Fajt tied for sixth with a 146, Murrysville’s Chuck Tragesser was next with a 148 and Penn-Trafford’s Nick Turowski placed ninth with a 150.
Tri-State Open set
The Tri-State Open will take place Monday and Tuesday at Southpointe Golf Club. Kevin Shields in the returning champion.
Previous champions include Devin Gee (2020), Jason Martin (2019), Joe Boros (2018) and amateur Sean Knapp in 2017.
No player since 2008 has won consecutive titles.
Shields won a second title in 2011.
