District college football roundup: Seton Hill beats Bloomsburg to go 2-0
Luke Hauger hit the go-ahead field goal with 2:30 left in the third quarter and Seton Hill started a season 2-0 for the first time since 2016 with a 13-7 victory over Bloomsburg (1-1) on Saturday night.
JaiQuawn McGriff ran 20 times for 75 yards and Seton Hill’s only touchdown in the second quarter. Logan Wiland had 13 carries for 116 yards. Chris Jones was 14 for 26 for 155 yards and three interceptions. Seton Hill outgained Bloomsburg 350-165.
Cal (Pa.) 59, Lock Haven 0 — JaQuae Jackson caught eight passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns as Cal (Pa.) (2-0) blanked Lock Haven (1-1). Noah Mitchell threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns for the Vulcans, who totaled 540 yards of offense. Cal (Pa.) scored 45 first-half points.
Carnegie Mellon 31, Geneva 17 — Tre Vasiliadis ran 39 times for 264 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a scoring pass to lead Carnegie Mellon (1-1, 1-0) to a win in its PAC opener. Ben Miles was 8 of 15 for 131 yards and a passing and rushing touchdown. Hilton McClain Jr. ran for 104 yards for Geneva (0-2, 0-1).
Case Western 66, Waynesburg 33 — Drew Saxton threw for 413 yards and five touchdowns as Case Western (2-0, 1-0) doubled up Waynesburg (0-2, 0-1) in PAC play. Lucas DeCaro caught seven passes for 155 yards and a touchdown while Michael Wojkowski added six receptions for 138 yards and two touchdowns. The Spartans outgained Waynesburg, 575-461. Tyler Raines threw for 345 yards and three touchdowns for Waynesburg while Dakota Romantino caught nine passes for 260 yards and one TD and Justin Flack added 109 rushing yards.
Delaware 27, St. Francis (Pa.) 10 — Nolan Henderson was 18 for 23 for 259 yards and a touchdown to lead Delaware (0-2) past St. Francis (Pa.) (0-2). Quarterback Jyron Russell was 14 for 25 for 165 yards passing and ran six times for 83 yards and a score for St. Francis.
Denison 31, Allegheny 0 — Drew Dawkins went 13 of 26 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 58 more yards to lead Denison (1-1, 1-0) past Allegheny (1-1, 0-1). Aidan Brownlee had five catches for 98 yards, and Trey Fabrocini ran 17 times for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Allegheny was held to 25 yards rushing. Norwin grad Declan O’Brien led Allegheny with four catches for 59 yards.
IUP 29, Kutztown 26 — Apollo-Ridge grad Duane Brown caught 10 passes for 131 yards, including the goal-ahead 3-yard touchdown with 8:06 left in the game, to lead IUP (1-0) past Kutztown (1-1). Javon Davis was 20 for 30 for 204 yards and two scores. Raunya Mitchell had a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Millersville 21, Clarion 17 — Isaiah Onuschak made 16 tackles, including a stop on quarterback Michael Proios on a fourth-and-10 at the 17-yeard line with less than a minute to go, to lead Millersville (1-1) past Clarion (0-2).
Saint Vincent 34, Bluffton 14 — The Bearcats (1-0) held Bluffton (0-2) to 173 yards of offense, forcing three turnovers and recording a school-record six sacks, to win their season opener. Brady Walker went 18 for 30 for 246 yards and two touchdowns, both to Keith Kalp, who had give grabs for 143 yards. Julian Howard rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown.
Shepherd 56, Gannon 26 — Junior quarterback Tyson Bagent completed 29 of 37 passes for 363 yards and five touchdowns to lead Shepherd (2-0) to the win at Gannon (1-1). Josh Gontarek caught four passes for 108 yards and teammate Ryan Beach added eight receptions for 82 yards and one touchdown. Kory Curtis tossed for 252 yards and three touchdowns to pace Gannon.
Shippensburg 30, Edinboro 9 — Brycen Mussina threw two first-quarter touchdown passes and Bill Williams ran for a pair of scores as Shippensburg (2-0) defeated Edinboro (0-1) to run its winning streak in the series between the schools to four games.
Slippery Rock 22, East Stroudsburg 7 — Andrew Koester completed 17 of 32 passes for 277 yards and two scores and Tim Smith had 21 carries for 122 yards to help Slippery Rock improve to 2-0 with a win over East Stroudsburg (1-1). Chris D’Or caught an 81-yard touchdown pass from Koester in the third quarter.
Washington & Jefferson 64, Thiel 12 — Justin Heacock was 9 for 11 for 148 yards and a score and EJ Thompson and Joey Koroly combined for 112 rushing yards and four touchdowns to lead Washington & Jefferson (2-0, 1-0) past Thiel (0-2, 0-1). Washington & Jefferson outgained Thiel, 470-139.
West Chester 56, Mercyhurst 10 — Michael Gobora recorded 3 1/2 of West Chester’s 10 sacks in its road win at Mercyhurst (1-1). Cole Zapf and Zach Liggitt added two sacks each for West Chester (1-1), which forced three turnovers and held Mercyhurst to 169 total yards. Shane Dooley threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns for the Golden Rams, which amassed 450 yards of offense. Michael Lowery threw for 105 yards and Mercyhurst’s touchdown.
