Forward Josh Currie served as captain of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins during the 2020-21 season.

Former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Josh Currie has signed with Kölner Haie of Germany’s Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL).

That team, based in Cologne, announced the transaction via a release on Thursday.

A native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Currie’s Penguins career was limited to one game (and no points) with the NHL club in 2020-21.

Currie (5-foot-11, 197 pounds) served as captain of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins that season. Appearing in 24 American Hockey League (AHL) games, the right-hander scored 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists).

The 31-year-old Currie spent last season with the AHL’s Belleville Senators. In 62 games, he posted 29 points (12 goals, 17 assists).
