Hempfield grad Kason Harrell is a basketball player at Purdue Fort Wayne.

Kason Harrell’s journey to professional basketball reached a high note Monday night when the former Hempfield star signed a contract with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the NBA G League affiliate of the Indiana Pacers.

Harrell, who graduated last year from Purdue Fort Wayne, had a tryout with the Mad Ants on Sept. 21 at the Turnstone Plassman Athletic Center in Fort Wayne.

He also worked out for the Maine Red Claws, the Boston Celtics’ G League team.

The 6-foot-2, 192-pound point guard has an agent with GoEmpire Group. Additional terms of his contract will be contingent upon him making the team.

Training camp begins Oct. 28.

Players who sign “Select Contracts” make $125,000 for the five-month G League season.

Harrell, the all-time leading scorer at Hempfield, averaged 15.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists a game in his final season at Purdue Fort Wayne.
