The Pittsburgh Pirates added right-hander Dennis Santana to their active roster before Thursday’s game at the St. Louis Cardinals, the latest move in their bullpen shakeup.

The 28-year-old Santana, claimed Tuesday off waivers from the New York Yankees, adds another veteran arm to the relief corps. The 28-year-old has a 10-14 record, 5.34 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in seven major league seasons, with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, New York Mets and Yankees.

Santana was 2-0 with a 6.26 ERA and 1.35 WHIP, 19 strikeouts against 10 walks in 27⅓ innings over 23 games for the Yankees before being designated for assignment on Sunday.

To make room for Santana on the active roster, the Pirates optioned righty reliever Ryder Ryan to Triple-A Indianapolis. Infielder Alika Williams (wrist), who is on the 10-day injured list, also begins a rehabilitation assignment with Indianapolis.
