Knapp shoots a 71, Mediate 72 at U.S. Senior Open

Oakmont native Sean Knapp shot a 1-over par 71 on Thursday during the first round of the U.S. Senior Open at Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.

Knapp is nine strokes behind the co-leaders David Toms and Steve Stricker, who each shot an 8-under par 62.

He is tied for 62^nd.

Greensburg native Rocco Mediate is tied for 76^th after shooting a 2-over par 72.

Both local golfers have work to do if they want to make the cut and play on the weekend.

There are 154 golfers in the field at the Notre Dame University course.
