Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jakob Junis was hit in the back of the neck by a line drive during Pittsburgh Pirates batting practice Monday afternoon before the teams’ game at PNC Park.

Trainers from both teams tended to Junis near the warning track in right field for 15 minutes before an ambulance arrived, backing onto the outfield grass and taking Junis off on a medical backboard.

The Brewers released the following statement: “Brewers pitcher Jakob Junis was hit in the neck by a batted ball during batting practice. He is conscious, alert and responsive. He was sent to the hospital for further evaluation.”

The right-handed reliever, who is on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder injury, was running in the outfield when he was struck.
