Goaltender Joel Blomqvist made 31 saves on 32 shots and recorded his first career American Hockey League (AHL) victory, leading the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins past the Springfield Falcons, 3-1, at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Forward Rem Pitlick tallied a goal and an assist in the home opener for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (2-2-0-0) while forward Sam Houde recorded two assists.

The Penguins’ next game is a home contest against the rival Hershey Bears on Wednesday, 7:05 p.m.

Two goals and an assist by forward Cédric Desruisseaux led the Wheeling Nailers to a season-opening 4-1 win against the Cincinnati Cyclones at Cincinnati’s Heritage Bank Center .

Forward Lukas Svejkovsky had a goal and an assist for Wheeling while forward Jordan Frasca contributed two assists. Goaltender Taylor Gauthier made 30 saves on 31 shots in the victory.

The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday, 7 p.m.
